Model Answer

(P) One way advances in digital film have benefited institutions could be that it is potentially cheaper to produce and distribute. (ex) One example of this is Monsters (2010) a film created by independent director Gareth Edwards. (Ev) As a result of being able to use consumer grade cameras, he was able to shoot his film on a smaller budget, without any loss of quality in comparison to film. (ex) Another example of this could be A Field In England. This film took advantage of the upgraded digital projectors, invested by the UK Film council as part of the Digital Screen Network, and was able to screen to several digital cinemas on its release day, which would have cost the smaller independent production company more money, had they used film reel to distribute.

(P) Another way digital advances have offered benefits could be the increased range of films available. (ex) (ev) Due to the Digital Screen Network, audiences are able to see wider range of film, across many genres, from both mainstream and independent production companies, such as sci-fi movies like Guardians of The Galaxy, or social realist films such as Submarine or A Field in England.

(P) Another benefit is the efficiency in the production stage. (ex) for example, digital camera can be smaller. (ev) this provides benefits to directors (both independent and mainstream) who are able to access smaller more intimate filming locations, without transporting larger film cameras and film reel.

(p) Another benefit is the duration of footage that can be captured. (ex) for example, large hard drives can capture a near unlimited amount of digital data. (ev) this allows a director to continue rolling, without the fear of running out, which allowed the director of 127 Hours to capture a more realistic reaction.
